Dr Maryam Shamassi obtained her medical degree at Jundi-Shapur University of Medical Sciences in Iran. After finishing her internship in different public hospitals, she moved to Australia, and started working at Queensland Health as rotating senior house officer in different departments. She also worked as PBL tutor/PBE examiner for University of Queensland medical school for a few years.
Dr Shamassi spent a year working as a general practitioner in Brisbane before moving to Victoria to begin her pathology training, which she undertook at Monash Medical Centre, The Royal Children’s and Royal Women’s Hospitals, and Healthscope Pathology. She obtained her Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2016 and started at Dorevitch Pathology in early 2017.
Dr Shamassi has several research publications to her name, and she has interests in all areas of histopathology, with particular emphasis on hepatobiliary, renal, paediatric and gynaecological pathology.
