Dr Sasha Jaksic graduated from University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia with a MD before obtaining her Post Graduate Degree (Specialist) in Microbiology with Parasitology and MsSci Virology. After working abroad in Europe, New Zealand and USA, including the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, DC, Dr Jaksic relocated to Australia and retrained in Microbiology. She was awarded Fellowship to the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2000. During training, she received the prestigious D.S. Nelson prize from the College. Within Australia, Dr Jaksic has worked at Flinders University in Adelaide, the Royal Brisbane Hospital and at St John of God Pathology in Perth where she was also Senior Clinical Lecturer, University of WA.
Dr Jaksic is currently a member of the Australian Medical Association, Australian Society of Antimicrobials, American Society for Microbiology, Infectious Disease Society of America, European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. she sits of various committees, including JSAC, MAC and the MBS Taskforce review. She has published more than 20 papers and presented at numerous conferences both in Australia and internationally.
Dr Jaksic is an examiner for the Microbiology, RCPA and a NATA Assessor. She currently also reviews a number of journals including the RCPA's "Pathology". Her interests are antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic stewardship.
