Biography
Dr Melody Caramins is the National Head of Genetics for Dorevitch Pathology and Specialist Diagnostic Services. She graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Medicine then spent a number of years as a clinician before completing her training as a Genetic Pathologist at the Royal Prince Alfred and Prince of Wales hospitals in Sydney.
Dr Caramins was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia as Australia’s first graduating Genetic Pathologist in 2006, and a Fellowship of the faculty of Science of the RCPA in 2011. She has, and continues to have, appointments to a number of committees for the Federal Department of Health and Ageing.
From 2008 – 2012 Dr Caramins was Acting Director of the SEALS Genetics Department in NSW and in 2013 joined Dorevitch and SDS Pathology. She has authored many journal articles and book chapters is actively involved in lecturing at the University of New South Wales.
Her special interests include prenatal genetics, adult-onset disorders including oncogenetics and neurogenetics; implementation of novel diagnostic methodologies and bioinformatics.
